The City of Madera is hiring a Code Enforcement Officer III to lead advanced inspection and compliance work in Berenda, Madera County. This full-time position offers the opportunity to enforce building and safety codes that protect the community.

About the Role

As a Code Enforcement Officer III, you'll hold the advanced journey-level position within the Code Enforcement Officer classification. You'll manage complex inspections across a wide spectrum of building codes and related regulations, bringing technical expertise and sound judgment to every assignment. Working under general supervision, you'll handle the most challenging enforcement cases and inspections that require specialized knowledge and experience.

What You'll Do

• Conduct thorough, complex building and code inspections to ensure compliance with municipal, state, and federal regulations
• Investigate code violations and non-compliance issues across residential, commercial, and industrial properties
• Enforce municipal ordinances and building codes consistently and fairly
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and violations documentation
• Collaborate with property owners, contractors, and other city departments to resolve compliance concerns
• Perform site assessments and provide technical guidance on remediation
• Manage high-complexity assignments requiring independent decision-making and advanced knowledge

What We're Looking For

• Extensive experience in code enforcement, building inspection, or a related field
• Deep knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and municipal ordinances
• Strong inspection and analytical skills with attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and handle complex, sensitive situations professionally
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Customer service orientation and ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders
