Based in Washington D.C., the Litigation Docket Specialist is responsible for the daily activities in a Managing Attorney’s Office, including the filing, service and retrieval of court documents; maintaining and updating all related databases; processing incoming court documents, checking dockets for updates, docketing/calendaring and running reports; communicating with court personnel and attorneys regarding proper filing procedures.
This role reports to the D.C. Managing Attorney.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing support to litigation attorneys, including research, retrieval of documents and service of process.
- Performing electronic court filings for state and federal district and appellate court.
- Screening and reviewing incoming and outgoing court documents and ensuring compliance with court rules and procedures.
- Reviewing court filings and entering calendar deadlines in centralized docketing software (CourtAlert).
- Tracking critical dates and related details and communicating information with attorneys, paralegals and/or staff, as necessary.
- Traveling to court and related administrative agencies to process court filings as necessary (retrieving decisions, filing papers, etc.).
- Searching cases using the software and internet resources as necessary.
- Assisting with other administrative projects or provide other general back-up support as necessary.
Qualifications:
- An understanding of court docketing and calendaring procedures and familiarity with court filings and general rules of court for processing pleadings.
- Excellent organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with rules-based calendaring software (e.g. CourtAlert, CompuLaw, MA3000, et al.) desirable.
- Experience with federal, state and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (i.e. NYSCEF, NexGen, PACER, et al.).
- General level of knowledge of court rules and procedures in New York state and federal courts.
Experience:
- Experience working in a large law firm highly desired.
- Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in litigation docketing desired.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience with rules-based calendaring software (e.g. CourtAlert, CompuLaw, MA3000, et al.) preferred.
- Experience with federal, state and local court systems, including electronic filing systems (i.e. NYSCEF, NexGen, PACER, et al.).
- General level of knowledge of court rules and procedures in Washington D.C. state and federal courts and agencies.

Compensation & Benefits:
The annual compensation range for this position is $85-100k. The salary offered within this range will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
