Role Overview 

The Search AI Product Engineering team is dedicated to crafting innovative search and discovery experiences for Coupang customers. By utilizing cutting-edge AI breakthroughs, we empower our users to navigate products with ease and find everything they need to live their lives to the best

This team is a full stack team, in which there are Android, iOS, Web and Backend engineers. As the engineer of Search AI Product Engineering team, you will own one of the most critical product surfaces on Coupang’s app – Search and Discovery surfaces where 60%+ of transactions happen.

What You Will Do

• Engineer robust AI harness solutions to power the Search AI Product Engineering team
• Develop and launch groundbreaking AI-driven experiences for Coupang’s search and discovery platforms
• Drive the high-quality development and maintenance of critical iOS search components, ensuring a robust, fluent, and lightning-fast user experience that wows our customers.
• Strategically collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and cross-functional teams to deliver holistic, end-to-end user experiences.
• Apply best-in-class programming skills to develop highly innovative, consumer-facing mobile products

What we are looking for

• 6+ years of professional iOS development experience, demonstrating deep proficiency in swift
• Proven track record developing and scaling high-quality, large-scale consumer mobile applications
• Hands-on experience engineering robust AI harness solutions
• Expertise utilizing data analytic tools (e.g., Presto, Jupyter) to drive product insights
• Ability to design, execute, and analyze complex A/B tests and experiments to inform product decisions
• Experience with architecture patterns like MVVM, modern concurrency (Combine / async-await), and data persistence (Core Data)
• Deep and practical understanding of modern iOS UI development, including both UIKit and SwiftUI
• Exceptional cross-functional communication skills and a strong product sense.
• A strong passion and sense of ownership for building and iterating on consumer-facing product

Basic Qualifications  

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, statistics or closely related fields
• Experience developing high quality, large-scale consumer applications
• Experience in data analytic tools such as Presto or Jupyter
• Able to conduct complex A/B testing, able to do experiment analysis
• Deep understanding of UI development of Android
• Experience with MVVM, Hilt and Room
• Strong communication skills and great product sense
• Strong passion of building product

Preferred Qualifications 

• Master’s or PhD in relevant technical fields
• Experience with iOS application development (Swift/Objective-C).
• Experience with Android and/or web development is a strong plus
• Proven track record of strong ownership, ideally within an early-stage startup environment.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage ambiguity in fast-paced environment

Pay & Benefits 

Our compensation reflects the cost of living across several US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is one part of your total compensation.

The base pay for Staff position ranges from $164K/year to $282K/year. Pay is based on several factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
