Design Technician Trainee

Builders FirstSource is hiring a Design Technician Trainee at our El Paso, El Paso County location to join our team as a full-time trainee in our comprehensive design technician program. This is an excellent opportunity to launch a career in building component design and truss manufacturing.

About the Role

This full-time position offers structured, hands-on training in design technology and component engineering. You'll participate in a 16-week intensive development program that combines online coursework, classroom instruction, and practical field experience. The program prepares you to transition into a Component Technician or Truss Designer role, working with building materials and structural design.

What You'll Do

• Complete online training modules in design principles and technical fundamentals
• Attend classroom instruction on truss design, component specifications, and industry standards
• Gain hands-on experience in design labs and production environments
• Work alongside a design manager to learn real-world application of design concepts
• Develop proficiency in design tools and software used in the industry
• Support design and component team projects under direct supervision

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Demonstrated ability to learn technical concepts and skills
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in design work
• Willingness to complete a structured, intensive training program
• Ability to work collaboratively in a manufacturing and design environment
