Join Steppenwolf Theater Co as a Wardrobe Assistant in Sheffield Neighbors, Chicago. This is a full-time role supporting our nationally acclaimed theater company's costume operations and live productions.
About the Role
As Wardrobe Assistant, you'll work behind the scenes to keep our costumes stage-ready and performers supported throughout every production. You'll be part of a dedicated team ensuring seamless wardrobe management for Steppenwolf's groundbreaking theatrical productions.
What You'll Do
- Organize, inventory, and maintain all costumes and garments for current and upcoming productions
- Inspect costumes for damage, wear, and needed repairs; coordinate cleaning and alterations
- Support costume fittings and adjustments with performers during rehearsals and tech weeks
- Assist with quick costume changes and wardrobe needs during live performances
- Work closely with the Costume Designer and Wardrobe Supervisor to track costume conditions and updates
- Store and label costumes properly to ensure easy retrieval and long-term preservation
- Contribute to the overall efficiency and organization of the wardrobe department
What We're Looking For
- Strong organizational and attention-to-detail skills
- Basic sewing or garment care experience a plus
- Ability to work collaboratively with costume and production teams
- Flexibility to support rehearsals, tech weeks, and performance schedules
