Iberia Parish School District is hiring a full-time Substitute Bus Operator to join our Transportation Department and help keep our students safe while getting to school each day.
About the Role
As a Substitute Bus Operator, you'll operate school buses and transport students along designated routes within Iberia Parish. This is essential work that directly supports student access to educational opportunities. You'll step in to cover scheduled and unscheduled absences, working flexible hours based on district transportation needs.
What You'll Do
- Operate school buses safely and defensively while transporting students to and from school campuses and events
- Follow established routes and schedules while maintaining precise arrival times
- Inspect vehicles before and after each route to identify maintenance issues or safety concerns
- Ensure student safety and well-being during transport, including enforcing passenger behavior expectations
- Comply with all state and federal traffic laws, including commercial driving regulations
- Communicate with dispatch regarding schedule changes, delays, or vehicle issues
- Maintain a clean, orderly bus environment for students and staff
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations and report incidents to supervisors
What We're Looking For
- Current, valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with passenger endorsement, or willingness to obtain one
- Clean driving record free from serious violations
- Pass a background check and drug screening
- Physical ability to operate a bus and assist students as needed
- Reliability and dependability for variable scheduling
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to student safety as the top priority
