Maitenance/ Building Mechanic

Vista Hill Careers is seeking a Maintenance/Building Mechanic to join its facilities team in San Diego, San Diego County on a full‑time basis.

About the Role

The Maintenance/Building Mechanic ensures that all Vista Hill properties—from inland locations such as Ramona and El Cajon to coastal sites including National City—remain safe, functional, and comfortable for staff and clients. Working as part of a small, dedicated four‑person crew, the mechanic supports a wide range of building systems and responds to the day‑to‑day needs of multiple programs.

What You'll Do

• Perform preventive maintenance and routine inspections on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry systems across all facilities.
• Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions, replace worn components, and restore operations quickly to minimize downtime.
• Respond to work orders submitted by department leads, prioritize tasks, and communicate progress to the Facilities Manager.
• Assist with minor renovations, installations, and upgrades, ensuring work meets safety codes and company standards.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts usage, and service logs.
• Participate in on‑call rotations as needed to address urgent facility issues outside regular hours.

What We're Looking For

• Proven experience as a building mechanic, maintenance technician, or similar trade role.
• Solid working knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical circuits, plumbing fixtures, and basic carpentry.
• Ability to read schematics, follow technical manuals, and use hand and power tools safely.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying potential issues before they escalate.
• Effective communication skills for coordinating with supervisors, vendors, and site staff.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between Vista Hill locations.
• Commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work environment and adhering to all safety protocols.
