Populous is seeking an Interior Designer II to join its San Francisco, California studio, where you’ll help craft environments that bring people together through thoughtful, sensory‑rich design.
About the Role
In this full‑time position you’ll collaborate with architects, project managers, and clients to develop interior concepts for a variety of hospitality, sports, and entertainment venues. You’ll take ideas from schematic design through construction documentation, ensuring that every detail aligns with the project’s vision, budget, and schedule.
What You'll Do
- Develop interior design concepts, mood boards, and material palettes that support the overall project narrative
- Produce detailed drawings, specifications, and schedules using industry‑standard software such as AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite
- Coordinate with consultants and vendors to select finishes, furnishings, and fixtures while maintaining compliance with accessibility and building codes
- Participate in client presentations, workshops, and design reviews, articulating design intent and incorporating feedback
- Prepare construction documents and assist with on‑site observation to verify that the design is executed as intended
- Maintain organized project files, track revisions, and contribute to the firm’s knowledge base of materials and details
What We're Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- 3–5 years of interior design experience, preferably within hospitality, sports, or cultural projects
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with SketchUp, Rhino, or similar modeling tools is a plus
- Strong visual communication skills, including hand sketching, rendering, and presentation techniques
- Knowledge of sustainable design practices, material specifications, and relevant code requirements
- Excellent organizational abilities, with a track record of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
- Effective communicator who thrives in a collaborative, multidisciplinary studio environment
- Portfolio demonstrating a range of interior projects from concept to completion
