Preti Flaherty is seeking an Associate Attorney – Litigation to join its growing litigation team in Portland, Cumberland County, ME.

About the Role

This full‑time position is based at the firm’s newly renovated headquarters in downtown Portland and operates on a hybrid schedule, requiring regular in‑office presence. The attorney will support a diverse caseload for regional and national clients across multiple practice areas within the litigation group.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct legal research and analysis on a variety of civil and commercial matters.
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, discovery requests, and appellate briefs.
  • Assist senior attorneys in preparing for depositions, hearings, trials, and alternative dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Manage case timelines, coordinate with clients and experts, and maintain organized case files.
  • Participate in strategy meetings and contribute to the development of litigation approaches.
  • Stay current with procedural rules and substantive law developments affecting the firm’s practice areas.

What We're Looking For

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and active admission to the Maine Bar (or eligibility for admission).
  • Demonstrated experience in litigation, preferably with exposure to complex civil or commercial cases.
  • Strong analytical, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team‑oriented environment while managing independent tasks.
  • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Commitment to professional growth and adherence to the highest ethical standards.
