Director Production Operations

WuXi AppTec is seeking a Director Production Operations to lead the Middletown, New Castle County facility that manufactures oral solid dosage and sterile drug products.

About the Role

This position provides strategic oversight for the entire drug‑product manufacturing lifecycle, ensuring that production aligns with customer expectations, regulatory standards, and business goals. The director will partner with cross‑functional teams to drive continuous improvement and maintain a high‑performing CDMO operation.

What You'll Do

• Develop and execute production plans that support oral solid dosage and sterile product output.
• Provide end‑to‑end leadership of manufacturing, packaging, and related support functions.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators to optimize yield, efficiency, and on‑time delivery.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, EMA, and other relevant regulations through robust quality systems.
• Foster a customer‑focused culture by aligning production capabilities with client project timelines and specifications.
• Lead talent development, including recruitment, coaching, and performance management for production staff.
• Drive initiatives for cost reduction, waste minimization, and technology adoption.
• Prepare regular reports for senior leadership on operational status, risks, and improvement opportunities.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, life sciences, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or director role.
• Proven track record managing CDMO or contract manufacturing operations involving oral solids and sterile products.
• Deep knowledge of cGMP, process validation, and regulatory submission requirements.
• Strong analytical skills with experience using data‑driven approaches to improve throughput and quality.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated success in building and mentoring high‑performing teams.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar continuous‑improvement methodologies.
