Neiman Enterprises is seeking a Procurement Forester to join its team in Gilchrist, Oregon, supporting timber acquisition for Gilchrist Forest Products LLC from the East Lake, Deschutes County region. This is a full‑time position located in the heart of central Oregon’s timber country.
About the Role
As a Procurement Forester, you will be responsible for identifying and evaluating timber resources, negotiating purchase agreements, and ensuring that all acquisitions meet quality and sustainability standards. You will work closely with private landowners, state and federal agencies, and internal teams to secure timber that maximizes value while adhering to environmental regulations.
What You'll Do
- Conduct field inspections and timber cruises to estimate volume, grade, and market value of standing timber.
- Analyze timber quotations and market data to develop competitive purchasing strategies.
- Prepare and present purchase recommendations to management based on financial and operational criteria.
- Negotiate contracts with private sellers, timber dealers, and representatives from ODF, USFS, and BLM lands.
- Maintain accurate records of transactions, volumes, and pricing in the company’s procurement system.
- Monitor compliance with state and federal forestry regulations, including harvest permits and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with logistics and mill teams to coordinate timely delivery of harvested timber.
- Stay current on industry trends, pricing indices, and emerging wood‑product markets.
What We're Looking For
- A bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Natural Resources, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- Proven experience in timber appraisal, procurement, or forest management, preferably in the Pacific Northwest.
- Strong understanding of timber markets, pricing mechanisms, and wood product specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret topographic maps, aerial imagery, and GIS data.
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills for dealing with diverse stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Oregon forest practices act and federal land management guidelines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with forest inventory software.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to remote forest sites as needed.
