Construction Technician

Baxter & Woodman is seeking a Construction Technician to join our team in Janesville, Rock County, WI. This full‑time position supports our civil engineering projects through field assistance, data collection, and documentation.

About the Role

As a Construction Technician, you will work closely with project engineers and site crews to help ensure that construction activities meet design specifications and regulatory standards. The role blends office‑based preparation with hands‑on field work on municipal and private infrastructure projects throughout the Rock County area.

What You'll Do

• Assist engineers with layout staking, grade checking, and verification of installed utilities.
• Perform field inspections and document progress using standard forms, photos, and GPS equipment.
• Prepare daily reports, material test summaries, and as‑built sketches for project files.
• Maintain accurate records of quantities, inspections, and compliance with local codes.
• Coordinate with contractors, utility owners, and municipal staff to facilitate smooth workflow.
• Support office tasks such as drafting simple details, updating spreadsheets, and organizing project documentation.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or coursework in civil engineering technology, construction management, or a related field is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of construction methods, materials, and surveying principles.
• Experience with field data collection tools (total station, laser level, GPS) is a plus but not required.
• Strong attention to detail, good communication skills, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel to various job sites within the region.
• Commitment to safety protocols and a willingness to learn company‑specific procedures.
