Electrical Estimator

The Electrical Estimator will take responsibility for end-to-end Electrical take-off and cost estimating, including coordination with the estimation, engineering, design and preconstruction teams. This position will support the detailed production, evaluation, and verification of estimates for projects of varying size and scale. The person in this position must exhibit decisiveness in recognizing key factors and provide input to make timely and accurate estimates.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate with the engineering and design teams to provide quantity take-off and estimate utilizing software for projects in the industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, office, data center spaces, among others.
  • Estimate types range from conceptual, preliminary/schematic, detailed and hard bid.
  • Cultivate and maintain a subcontractor and suppliers’ network that is utilized on all stages of design, engineering, estimation and preconstruction activities.
  • Review scope compliance of all subcontractor and supplier proposals, and provide feedback, as needed.
  • Conduct in-house quantity take-off and detailed estimate with Trimble Accubid and Live Count or Bluebeam.
  • Estimate breakdowns to include areas, phasing and systems cost summaries that will allow detailed subcontractor bid leveling for analysis and presentation to management.
  • Maintain understanding of industry labor rates and material costs across multiple regions of work within the US.
  • Assess and maintain volatility and changes in the active commodity market.
  • Coordinate with project construction field operations teams on project requirements, productions, job restrictions, staffing, competitive advantages, subcontractor experience, etc., when possible.
  • Contact and maintain AHJ permitting and electrical requirements across multiple regions of work within the US.
  • Prepare accurate subcontractors and vendors bid packages with complete scopes of work, including RFQ, SPQ, RFI log, terms & conditions, site rules, cost breakdown, etc.
  • Produce professional estimates ensuring accurate scopes of work, pricing, with detailed clarifications and exclusions.
  • Incorporate company safety policies and procedures in the building of estimates with the goal of providing a safe, healthy work environment.
  • Catalog and track historical estimate cost data and use it to help analyze trends and establish baselines for future conceptual projects.
  • Analyze historical estimating data, post project completion, to help provide KPI metrics to improve the estimating process.
  • Able to assemble a complete presentation-worthy estimate package that clearly communicates project cost and scope of work.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong, energetic, work ethic to efficiently execute all duties and responsibilities.
  • Desire to continue to learn and build foundational estimation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in estimating and quantity take-offs for scopes of work ranging from Division 25-28, 33 & 40.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite of software and Procore.
  • Proficiency in Accubid or similar.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam or similar.
  • Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical a plus.
  • Design-Build estimating experience preferred.
  • Ability to perform conceptual estimates based on limited drawings and specifications, with projects mainly focused on a design build client portfolio.
  • Must be proficient at reading and interpreting drawings and specifications accurately.
  • Must be able to coordinate estimate with all building disciplines.
  • Ability to perform digital or conventional take off.
  • Ability to work autonomously and independently at all stages of the estimation process.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Low Voltage electrical gear and equipment, MV equipment understanding is ideal.
  • Understanding of industrial, commercial construction means and methods, as it relates to both new construction and tenant improvements/fit outs.
  • Understanding of trade responsibilities within the overall construction contract.
  • Knowledge of Divisions in CSI master formats. Thorough knowledge of construction costs as it relates to the CSI Master Format with the ability to break out lump sum pricing into detailed scopes of work with definite quantities and units of measure.
  • Occasionally perform a site visit.

Work Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum five to seven (5-7) years’ industrial or commercial construction estimating experience.
  • Electrical Contractor experience a plus, not required.
  • Knowledge of construction practices and procedures for manufacturing plant construction preferred.
  • Record of successful project completion history preferred.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or another technical field a plus, but not required.
  • Additional certifications a plus
