Moonshot
OVERVIEW
The Manufacturing Engineer operates at the system level: owning new product introduction, design for manufacturability reviews, facility layout, tooling strategy, and capital equipment justification. This role is the technical backbone of the manufacturing engineering department, bridging Design, Production, and Quality to establish proactive engineering rigor as Moonshot scales its in-house production of switchboards, control panels, and power distribution equipment. You’ll design how products are built from start to finish and build the infrastructure to support continued growth.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- New Product Introduction & Design for Manufacturability: Own the NPI lifecycle from concept through production release. Review every new design for manufacturability before it reaches the floor. Develop full production processes including routing, tooling, and validation.
- Layout & Equipment Planning: Design and optimize facility layouts, workstations, and production flow. Identify, justify, and implement capital equipment investments with clear ROI analysis.
- Tooling & Fixture Strategy: Specify and design jigs, assembly aids, and fixtures that improve quality, reduce cycle time, and standardize production methods. Evaluate improvement ideas surfaced by the Process Engineer; own final decisions on design, vendor selection, and spend.
- Technical Escalation & Problem Solving: Serve as the senior engineering escalation point on the production floor. Lead root cause analysis on complex technical issues and drive corrective actions to closure.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Interface actively with Design/Drafting (manufacturability feedback, BOM reviews), Quality (process capability, defect reduction), and Production Planning (capacity, scheduling alignment).
- Cost Modeling & Capacity Planning: Build cost-per-panel models and capacity analyses. Drive system-level cost reduction initiatives using floor data from the Process Engineer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent.
- 5–8 years in a manufacturing engineering role with significant floor presence — not simulation, lab-only, or office-only settings.
- Electrical or electromechanical manufacturing experience required: must understand wire routing, terminations, electrical components, and be able to read schematics.
- Demonstrated experience with new product introduction, design for manufacturability reviews, facility layout, and capital equipment justification.
- Practical Lean manufacturing application at a system level (value stream mapping, flow optimization).
- Proficient in developing process sheets, visual documentation, and assembly line layouts.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, AutoCAD, and advanced Excel (macros, tracking tools). Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Experience with UL standards (UL508A, UL67, UL891) is highly preferred.
WHY MOONSHOT?
- High-Growth Environment: Be part of a rapidly scaling company delivering power infrastructure for AI and data center applications, with meaningful technical challenges and real ownership.
- Practical Engineering Focus: Work on real-world power distribution equipment where sound engineering judgment, compliance, and manufacturability matter.
- Collaborative Team: Join a hands-on engineering organization that values clear communication, technical details, and getting designs right.
