Tribune Broadcasting Company II is hiring a Reporter for WREG in Memphis, Tennessee. As a member of our broadcast news team, you'll develop and deliver compelling stories that inform and engage our community, working closely with photojournalists to bring news to air daily.
About the Role
This full-time position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic broadcast journalism environment. You'll be responsible for identifying story opportunities, conducting thorough reporting, and presenting your findings across multiple newscasts throughout the day. The role requires strong collaboration with video professionals and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom.
What You'll Do
- Identify, research, and develop news stories for daily broadcast assignment
- Conduct interviews and gather information from sources, officials, and community members
- Coordinate and work in the field with photojournalists to report and record stories
- Write scripts and prepare reports for live on-air delivery
- Navigate breaking news situations and shifting editorial priorities
- Cover assigned beats and community interests while developing new story leads
- Collaborate with newsroom producers and editorial staff on story placement
What We're Looking For
- Journalism degree or demonstrable professional experience in broadcast news
- Strong writing ability and polished on-camera presentation skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with videographers and production teams
- Self-motivated approach to story development and source cultivation
- Experience working in a broadcast newsroom environment preferred
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing assignments and news cycles
- Knowledge of journalism ethics and news judgment standards
