GHD, a leading professional services firm, is hiring an Architecture Manager & Business Development Lead for its San Francisco office in the Financial District. This full-time role combines strategic architectural leadership with business development responsibility, offering the chance to shape the growth of our design practice across residential, commercial, institutional, and infrastructure projects.
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced architect with entrepreneurial drive to lead project delivery while actively developing client relationships and winning new work. You'll serve as the principal architect on significant assignments, mentor junior staff, and take ownership of P&L performance for your accounts. This is a "seller-doer" position where you'll split your time between managing active projects and cultivating business opportunities that expand our market presence.
What You'll Do
- Direct architectural design and project delivery across multiple building types and sectors
- Lead client presentations, proposal development, and fee negotiations to secure new commissions
- Build and sustain relationships with existing clients, consultants, and industry partners
- Oversee project teams, manage timelines and budgets, and ensure quality outcomes
- Identify market opportunities and develop strategies to penetrate new sectors or geographies
- Contribute to firm-wide business development initiatives and marketing efforts
- Collaborate with the US West Design Studio leadership to achieve growth targets
What We're Looking For
- Licensed architect (AIA member preferred) with 10+ years of professional design and project experience
- Demonstrated success securing clients, closing work, or growing a book of business
- Strong communication and presentation skills with executive-level stakeholders
- Project management expertise and ability to lead cross-disciplinary teams
- Passion for design excellence and innovative problem-solving
- Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort operating in a business development capacity
