Hylton-Rodic Law seeks a dynamic Mid-Level Patent Attorney with expertise in life sciences and chemistry to join our Washington, D.C. office, where you'll drive patent development and prosecution for innovation-focused clients while expanding your influence and leadership impact.
About the Role
You'll serve as a core contributor in our intellectual property practice, taking on strategic responsibility for patent matters across the life sciences and chemistry sectors. This role is designed for an accomplished attorney ready to move beyond hands-on execution into ownership of client relationships, strategy, and firm leadership.
What You'll Do
- Prepare and prosecute patent applications in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and chemical technology
- Develop patent strategy and portfolio guidance for life sciences and chemistry clients
- Conduct prior art searches, novelty assessments, and patentability analyses
- Draft and respond to USPTO office actions, claims amendments, and detailed legal arguments
- Provide technical counseling to inventors and clients on intellectual property protection strategies
- Take ownership of client relationships and end-to-end matter management
- Contribute to development of firm processes, standards, and best practices
What We're Looking For
- 3–7 years of patent attorney experience with demonstrated expertise in life sciences or chemistry patent prosecution
- Advanced degree or strong technical background in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or related scientific discipline
- Active registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office
- Strong analytical, research, and technical writing capabilities
- Proven ability to manage multiple patent matters with precision and accountability
- Proactive approach to contributing to practice growth and operational efficiency
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills across teams
