Join French Hospital Medical Center's surgical team as a part-time OR Tech/Surgical Tech in San Luis Obispo, San Luis Obispo County, for a 13-week assignment. In this essential surgical services role, you'll manage operating room preparation, instrument sterilization, and surgical support—directly impacting patient safety and surgical outcomes.
About the Role
As an Operating Room Technician, you'll perform critical technical and logistical duties that enable our surgical teams to deliver exceptional patient care. Working closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff, you'll ensure every operating room is properly equipped, organized, and ready for optimal surgical success.
What You'll Do
- Set up and organize operating rooms before and between surgical procedures
- Sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to strict hospital protocols
- Pass instruments and supplies to surgeons and surgical nurses during operations
- Maintain sterile field integrity and monitor for contamination throughout procedures
- Manage surgical inventory and coordinate equipment maintenance and availability
- Support patient positioning and assist with pre- and post-operative care protocols
- Document surgical activities and assist with operating room turnover
- Collaborate with anesthesia, nursing, and surgical staff to maximize workflow efficiency
What We're Looking For
- Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or current eligibility for certification
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Current CPR certification
- Strong knowledge of surgical instruments, techniques, and patient safety protocols
- Ability to maintain focus and composure in high-intensity surgical environments
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and physical endurance for standing and lifting
- Outstanding communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of sterile technique and patient care
