The City of Glendale is hiring a Senior Internal Auditor to lead internal audit services from our Eagle Rock office. As a mid-management professional, you'll direct auditing operations for this Los Angeles County municipality while supervising and developing internal audit staff.
About the Role
This is a full-time position under the direction of the Principal Auditor, combining hands-on audit expertise with supervisory responsibility. The role centers on delivering comprehensive, high-quality internal audit services that strengthen municipal operations and governance across City departments.
What You'll Do
- Plan and conduct internal audits across City functions, assessing operational efficiency, compliance, and risk management
- Supervise and mentor internal audit team members, assigning audit engagements and ensuring quality of audit work
- Develop and execute annual audit plans aligned with City priorities and risk assessment findings
- Document audit findings, prepare detailed reports with recommendations, and present results to management and leadership
- Evaluate internal controls, financial systems, and departmental processes to identify improvement opportunities
- Monitor implementation of audit recommendations and follow up on corrective actions
- Ensure audit work meets professional standards and maintains independence from audited functions
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field
- Minimum 5+ years of internal or governmental audit experience
- Certification as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) preferred
- Strong knowledge of municipal government operations, compliance requirements, and risk management
- Ability to lead and supervise audit staff while maintaining high technical standards
- Excellent communication skills and ability to present findings to diverse audiences
- Proficiency with audit planning, risk assessment, and audit management tools
