Substation Senior Civil/Structural Engineer

Leidos is hiring a Substation Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to lead the design, analysis, and execution of electrical substation infrastructure for major Energy and Utilities initiatives. Based in Willow Run, Washtenaw County, this full-time position offers the opportunity to shape critical grid infrastructure while managing complex structural engineering deliverables across a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

About the Role

As a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer specializing in substations, you will drive the technical direction of structural systems that support modern energy transmission and distribution. This role combines hands-on engineering leadership with project ownership, requiring deep expertise in the design and analysis of substation infrastructure that meets rigorous industry standards and regulatory requirements.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design and structural analysis of substation facilities, from foundation systems through above-grade structural frameworks
• Develop comprehensive civil and structural deliverables including steel and concrete design calculations, foundation engineering, grading plans, and site layout documentation
• Ensure all substation structures meet NESC (National Electrical Safety Code) and ASCE standards, along with all applicable local and federal building codes
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers to integrate structural solutions into larger Energy and Utilities projects
• Perform site assessments, geotechnical analysis, and structural feasibility studies for substation locations
• Review and mentor junior engineers while maintaining quality control across all deliverables

What We're Looking For

• Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Structural Engineering (required)
• Minimum 8+ years of experience in structural or civil engineering, with significant focus on substation or electrical utility infrastructure design
• Demonstrated expertise in steel and concrete design, foundation analysis, and site engineering
• Strong knowledge of NESC, ASCE 7, and industry codes governing electrical substation structures
• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (STAAD Pro, SAP2000, or equivalent)
• Excellent project management and multidisciplinary team coordination skills
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities
