Fire Protection Engineer

CDM Smith is hiring a Fire Protection Engineer for our University Place, Pierce County office. You'll design, evaluate, and optimize fire protection systems while ensuring projects meet rigorous safety codes and standards that protect people and assets.

What You'll Do

• Design fire protection systems including suppression, detection, and alarm systems
• Perform code compliance evaluations against NFPA standards and local regulations
• Prepare technical reports, specifications, and engineering calculations
• Conduct fire risk assessments and safety analyses
• Coordinate with architects and MEP engineers during design phases
• Review construction documents and support construction administration
• Develop innovative solutions to complex fire safety challenges

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering or closely related engineering field
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility to obtain certification
• Demonstrated expertise in fire protection code requirements and design standards
• Experience with fire protection system design and engineering analysis
• Strong technical writing and communication abilities
• Collaborative approach to working within multidisciplinary teams
