As a Senior Software Engineer in Infrastructure, you'll own significant technical initiatives that span system architecture, performance optimization, and large-scale distributed systems. This is a leadership-oriented position where you'll combine deep technical expertise with the ability to guide and develop other engineers on your team.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement infrastructure systems that drive Google Cloud Compute's reliability, performance, and scalability
- Lead technical projects from conception through deployment, working across multiple teams and stakeholder groups
- Mentor junior and mid-level software engineers, reviewing their work and fostering their professional growth
- Debug complex production issues, identify root causes, and implement systematic solutions
- Contribute to architecture decisions and technical standards that shape how we build cloud infrastructure
- Collaborate with product, operations, and other engineering teams to deliver features that meet customer needs
What We're Looking For
- Strong background in software engineering with proven expertise in infrastructure, distributed systems, or cloud platform development
- Demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers and driving technical projects to completion
- Deep knowledge of systems programming, performance optimization, or large-scale infrastructure challenges
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in systems software
- Ability to think strategically about technical problems while remaining hands-on with code
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively across teams
