Suwannee County Schools is hiring a Maintenance Worker I to support the daily operations and upkeep of our school facilities across the district. About the Role
As a Maintenance Worker I in our Facilities Department, you'll perform essential maintenance, repair, and custodial work that keeps our school buildings safe, clean, and functional for students and staff. This role is foundational to the maintenance team, combining hands-on technical skills with a commitment to quality facilities management.
What You'll Do
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on building systems, equipment, and fixtures
- Conduct preventive maintenance to identify and address issues before they escalate
- Operate and troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards across assigned areas
- Respond to maintenance requests from school staff and administrators
- Document work completed and report on facility conditions and needs
- Use hand and power tools safely and maintain equipment in good working order
- Collaborate with senior maintenance staff and follow established safety protocols
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Hands-on experience or formal training in a maintenance trade (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or general building maintenance)
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and basic diagnostic equipment
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Reliable transportation and commitment to consistent attendance
- Understanding of safety practices and ability to follow established procedures
- Willingness to learn and take direction from supervisory staff

Compensation and Details
This full-time position offers a salary range of $33,400–$45,192 annually, based on the 2025–2026 Suwannee County Schools salary schedule and experience. The role is located within our Facilities Department and is open until filled.
