About the Role
As Senior Reporter, you'll deliver breaking news and original reporting on the exploration and production landscape, with particular emphasis on shale plays, acquisitions, and capital allocation trends. You'll develop deep sources within industry leadership, investment firms, and operational teams to uncover exclusive insights that influence market understanding and business decisions.
What You'll Do
- Report on mergers, acquisitions, and investment activity across North American upstream oil and gas operators
- Cover shale industry developments, including exploration updates, production trends, and competitive positioning
- Analyze market-moving events and provide context that helps stakeholders understand industry implications
- Build and maintain relationships with C-suite executives, private equity sponsors, and institutional investors
- Write news stories, features, and analytical pieces for publication and distribution to industry professionals
- Identify emerging trends and potential stories before competitors
- Contribute to editorial strategy and help shape coverage priorities
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a business or energy reporter with a track record of competitive, exclusive reporting
- Deep familiarity with the upstream oil and gas sector, shale industry, or related energy markets
- Strong source-development skills and ability to cultivate relationships across industry sectors
- Excellent research, writing, and editorial judgment
- Experience covering mergers, acquisitions, private equity, and corporate strategy
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple stories simultaneously
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, business, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
