Apl Engineered Group is hiring a Safety Specialist at our Urbana, Champaign County facility. This full-time role offers the opportunity to lead our environmental health and safety initiatives and foster a workplace culture where safety is paramount.
About the Role
Apl Engineered Group manufactures advanced inorganic chemical compounds for radiation detection, conventional lighting, and critical mineral applications. As our Safety Specialist, you will own the environmental health and safety function at our Urbana location, ensuring regulatory compliance while building a proactive safety culture across all operations.
What You'll Do
- Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive environmental health and safety programs
- Conduct regular facility inspections and hazard assessments
- Deliver safety training and education to employees at all levels
- Investigate incidents and near-misses to prevent recurrence
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and environmental standards
- Maintain detailed safety documentation, records, and regulatory filings
- Partner with operations teams to identify and eliminate workplace hazards
What We're Looking For
- Professional experience in workplace safety, EHS, or occupational health management
- Solid knowledge of OSHA standards and safety compliance frameworks
- Strong communication and training abilities for diverse audiences
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous safety improvement
- OSHA 30, CHST, or equivalent certification preferred
