C-SPAN is hiring a Multimedia Journalist to cover Iowa's 2026 political campaigns and elections from the ground in Des Moines, Polk County. This is a full-time position running from July through December 31, 2026, where you'll document campaign stories and political events as they unfold across the region.
About the Role
As a multimedia journalist based in Des Moines, you'll partner with C-SPAN's Regional Coverage Manager and Campaign Desk to deliver on-the-ground coverage of political campaigns, candidate events, and election-related news. You'll be responsible for identifying, gathering, and producing multimedia content that captures the voices, stories, and momentum of the 2026 election cycle in Iowa.
What You'll Do
- Develop and sustain relationships with campaign staff, political organizations, and event coordinators throughout Polk County and Des Moines
- Gather advance event details, logistics, and newsworthy angles; communicate findings to the Assignment Desk
- Conduct field interviews with candidates, campaign representatives, and voters
- Produce and edit multimedia content—video, audio, and photography—for broadcast and digital distribution
- Cover rallies, fundraisers, town halls, and other campaign activities with editorial judgment and speed
- Work collaboratively with newsroom teams to meet deadlines and editorial standards
What We're Looking For
- Professional experience in broadcast journalism or multimedia news production
- Demonstrated skill with video and audio equipment
- Strong interviewing, reporting, and visual storytelling abilities
- Knowledge of political coverage and campaign dynamics
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple assignments, and adapt to breaking news
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
