Lima City School District seeks a dedicated English Language Arts Teacher to join West 7/8 Middle School in Lima, Ohio. This full-time, certified position begins August 18, 2026, and offers the opportunity to inspire young learners through reading, writing, and communication instruction.
About the Role
In this ELA teaching role, you'll guide students through literature study, writing instruction, and communication skills that form the foundation for academic achievement and lifelong learning. Working with grades 7 and 8, you'll create a classroom where critical thinking flourishes and students develop confidence as readers and writers.
What You'll Do
- Plan and deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction aligned with state standards and district curriculum
- Teach reading comprehension, literary analysis, and close reading strategies across diverse genres and texts
- Guide students in developing writing skills across narrative, expository, argumentative, and creative forms
- Assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations and provide meaningful feedback
- Foster a classroom community where discussion, collaboration, and respectful communication thrive
- Partner with families to keep them informed about student learning and progress
- Engage in ongoing professional growth and collaborate with colleagues in department and school initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Valid Ohio State Department of Education license appropriate for English Language Arts instruction
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field
- Proven experience teaching reading, writing, and speaking to middle school students
- Effective classroom management and organizational abilities
- Skill in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners
- Dedication to building an inclusive and supportive learning environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with students, families, and colleagues
