Evening Post Publishing seeks an experienced Managing Editor to lead the Pee Dee newsroom in Florence, Florence County. This full-time position serves as the editorial hub of our local news operation, overseeing daily journalism and newsroom strategy across all topic areas.
About the Role
As Managing Editor of the Pee Dee newsroom, you'll direct all editorial operations, from assignment planning through publication across digital platforms. You'll lead a dedicated team while remaining actively involved in reporting and editing—a true player-coach who shapes coverage that matters to the Florence community and surrounding region.
What You'll Do
- Guide daily news gathering and editorial decisions across all beats and topic areas
- Manage and mentor a team of two reporters and two interns, including partnership with Francis Marion University
- Plan editorial calendars, assign stories, and ensure timely execution in a fast-moving digital newsroom
- Maintain a strong presence in the Florence community, building relationships with sources and stakeholders
- Actively report and edit stories, contributing your own journalism alongside leadership responsibilities
- Develop emerging journalists through coaching and professional mentorship
- Evaluate audience engagement and refine coverage to meet community information needs
What We're Looking For
- Proven editorial leadership experience managing journalists in a newsroom environment
- Excellent news judgment and deep understanding of journalism ethics and standards
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Experience with digital publishing platforms and audience metrics
- Genuine commitment to local news and community engagement
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
