Bowman is seeking an Acoustical Engineer to join our team in Des Moines, Polk County. This is a full-time position where you'll apply your expertise in acoustic analysis, design, and problem-solving on projects across multiple sectors and scales.

About the Role

As an Acoustical Engineer at Bowman, you will lead acoustic assessments, develop sound control strategies, and deliver technical recommendations for construction, architectural, and industrial projects. Working directly with design and construction teams, you'll identify acoustic challenges, specify solutions, and verify compliance with applicable noise codes and acoustic performance standards throughout project delivery.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct acoustic field measurements, testing, and analysis to evaluate existing conditions and validate design performance
  • Develop acoustic design specifications and technical recommendations for building systems, mechanical equipment, and structural elements
  • Use acoustic modeling and analysis software to predict sound transmission, room acoustics, and noise control performance
  • Partner with architects, mechanical engineers, and construction teams to integrate acoustic solutions into project designs
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, and specifications that translate acoustic solutions for diverse stakeholder audiences
  • Monitor evolving noise regulations and acoustic design standards to ensure project compliance and best-practice alignment

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in acoustical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related engineering discipline
  • Solid understanding of acoustics fundamentals, sound measurement methodology, and acoustic design principles
  • Proficiency with acoustic simulation software and field measurement instrumentation
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across disciplines and explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical teams
  • Strong analytical and written communication skills
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or eligibility preferred
