About the Role
This full-time position plays a critical role in the university's commitment to environmental health and safety. As an Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator, you'll conduct routine and special inspections of university research and instructional laboratories, identify potential hazards, and work with faculty and staff to maintain safe, compliant work environments. Your work directly protects the safety of students, researchers, faculty, and staff across campus.
What You'll Do
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of university laboratories to assess compliance with OSHA regulations, EPA standards, and university safety policies
- Document findings and communicate safety recommendations to laboratory managers and department heads
- Assist in the development and implementation of safety protocols, procedures, and training materials
- Respond to safety concerns and incidents, supporting investigations and corrective actions
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, hazard assessments, and corrective actions
- Support the university's environmental health and safety program initiatives
What We're Looking For
- Master's degree in environmental health, occupational safety, chemistry, biology, or a closely related field with two years of relevant professional experience; OR a bachelor's degree in one of these fields with three years of relevant professional experience
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and regulatory compliance (OSHA, EPA, chemical safety standards)
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse campus stakeholders
- Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining comprehensive, accurate documentation
- Ability to assess hazards, identify risks, and recommend practical solutions
