About the Role
As an Associate Technical Designer, you'll work at the intersection of design creativity and manufacturing precision. You'll collaborate with our design, product, and sourcing teams to ensure every piece meets J Mclaughlin's standards for fit, quality, and construction. This full-time position plays a critical role in bringing our Men's Apparel and Women's Knits collections to life, season after season.
What You'll Do
- Develop technical specifications, measurements, and fit standards for men's apparel and women's knit products
- Create and refine pattern grading across size ranges to ensure consistent fit and quality
- Conduct fit reviews and revisions, communicating construction details with design and manufacturing partners
- Analyze material properties and construction methods to optimize performance and cost
- Use technical design software and tools to document and communicate garment construction
- Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to resolve production challenges and maintain quality standards
- Maintain detailed technical documentation and spec sheets for seasonal collections
What We're Looking For
- Experience in technical design, pattern development, or garment construction for apparel
- Strong knowledge of men's and knit garment construction, fit, and finishing techniques
- Proficiency with pattern grading and design software (CAD systems preferred)
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with precise measurements and specifications
- Clear communication skills—both written and visual—for collaborating across teams and with manufacturing partners
- Understanding of production processes, costing, and supply chain considerations
- Portfolio or examples of technical work demonstrating pattern development and garment construction expertise
