William Penn School District is seeking a Boys' Cross Country Assistant Coach to join our athletic program in Lansdowne, Delaware County for the 2026 fall season. This full-time supplemental position at Penn Wood High School offers the opportunity to develop high school distance runners and contribute to one of our most competitive fall programs.
About the Role
As Boys' Cross Country Assistant Coach, you will work alongside the head coach to build a comprehensive distance running program. This seasonal coaching position runs August through November during the 2026-2027 school year and focuses on both competitive achievement and athlete development.
What You'll Do
- Design and deliver practice sessions that develop aerobic capacity, running technique, and tactical racing skills
- Create individualized training programs for runners across different experience levels and ability ranges
- Prepare athletes for league meets, invitational competitions, and championship events throughout fall
- Provide pre-race strategy, pacing guidance, and post-race feedback to optimize performance
- Instruct runners on injury prevention, conditioning methods, and recovery best practices
- Communicate progress updates and program information to the head coach, athletes, and families
- Foster a positive, inclusive team environment that emphasizes safety, accountability, and mutual support
What We're Looking For
- Coaching experience in cross country, distance running, or track and field athletics
- Knowledge of distance running training principles, periodization, and race preparation strategies
- Ability to motivate and develop high school student-athletes effectively
- Strong communication and organizational skills with coaches, students, and school staff
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification
- Commitment to athlete safety and building a supportive athletic culture

Compensation
Compensation for this supplemental coaching position is provided in accordance with William Penn School District's negotiated coaching contract.
