Rockford Public School District #205 seeks a dedicated Crossing Guard for the 2025–2026 school year to ensure student safety during school arrival and dismissal times. This part-time, hourly position is based at Johnson Elementary in Rockford and plays a vital role in protecting our youngest travelers.
About the Role
As a Crossing Guard, you'll be the protective presence our students need at street intersections designated as high-traffic or hazardous by the City of Rockford Traffic Division. You'll work during peak school hours to monitor vehicle and pedestrian movement, manage crossing procedures, and create a safe passage for students walking to and from school.
What You'll Do
- Monitor traffic flow at assigned school crossing locations during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal periods
- Direct students across designated street intersections safely, using hand signals and stop signs as appropriate
- Communicate with drivers and ensure they understand crossing guard signals and right-of-way procedures
- Remain attentive and alert to traffic patterns, weather conditions, and student behavior
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions throughout the school year
- Report safety concerns or traffic hazards to school administration and the Building Principal
- Follow City of Rockford traffic regulations and school district safety protocols
