About the Role
As a Street Light Electrician with the City of Las Cruces, you'll play a critical role in the installation, repair, and ongoing maintenance of street lighting systems throughout Fairacres and surrounding areas. Working outdoors in all weather conditions, you'll diagnose electrical issues, replace fixtures and components, and ensure our lighting infrastructure operates reliably for community safety and visibility.
What You'll Do
- Install new street light fixtures and associated electrical systems according to city standards and specifications
- Repair and troubleshoot malfunctioning street lights and electrical components
- Perform routine maintenance and preventive servicing of street lighting equipment
- Work safely around traffic, construction sites, and electrical hazards including high-voltage equipment
- Collaborate with other city departments on infrastructure projects and improvements
- Document completed work and report on system status, needed replacements, and maintenance requirements
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Hands-on experience with electrical installation and troubleshooting
- Ability to safely operate around high-voltage equipment and work at heights
- Physical capability to perform manual labor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Knowledge of electrical codes and safety standards
- Proficiency with hand tools and electrical testing equipment
- Reliable, detail-oriented approach to completing assigned tasks
