Kentucky State University is seeking an experienced Adjunct Instructor – Woodwinds to join our School of Humanities. This part-time faculty position offers the opportunity to teach applied music instruction to university students in flute, clarinet, saxophone, and double reeds at our Frankfort campus.

About the Role

As an Adjunct Instructor of Applied Instrument – Woodwinds, you will provide individualized and ensemble music instruction to students preparing for careers in performance, music education, and related fields. This is a part-time position reporting to the Chair of the School of Humanities, allowing you to develop the next generation of musicians while maintaining flexibility in your schedule.

What You'll Do

  • Teach one-on-one applied lessons in your area of specialization (flute, clarinet, saxophone, or double reeds)
  • Design and deliver instruction that develops students' technical proficiency, musicianship, and performance skills
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to support individual growth
  • Participate in ensemble rehearsals and performance opportunities as needed
  • Maintain professional communication with students, parents, and colleagues
  • Contribute to the mission and culture of Kentucky State University's music program

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in music or music education (Master's degree preferred)
  • Professional performance experience on your primary woodwind instrument
  • Demonstrated ability to teach applied music at the college level
  • Strong command of technique, repertoire, and pedagogical methods for your instrument
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment
