Bank of Montreal is seeking a Managing Director, Relationship Manager for Fuel Services to lead business development and client management in the retail fuel and convenience sector. Based in Chicago with a service territory spanning the United States, you will drive growth through strategic partnerships with large and mid-sized fuel retailers and operators.

About the Role

This full-time position represents a key commercial banking relationship management opportunity within the fuel services sector. You will own the client lifecycle—from prospect identification through account expansion—for premium fuel retail and convenience store operators across the nation. Your focus will be building deep, strategic partnerships with senior leadership at target accounts and expanding Bank of Montreal's presence and market share in this specialized commercial vertical.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and execute comprehensive growth strategies for large and mid-sized fuel and convenience industry operators
  • Establish and nurture long-term client relationships with C-suite executives and key decision-makers at target accounts
  • Structure and originate commercial credit facilities, working capital solutions, and specialized financing tailored to fuel services businesses
  • Conduct market research and leverage industry connectivity to identify market trends, competitive opportunities, and optimal client targeting strategies
  • Manage the full credit lifecycle, including underwriting, documentation, approval, and ongoing account stewardship
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with credit, treasury, and operations teams to deliver integrated solutions
  • Exceed revenue targets and manage a healthy credit portfolio with strong risk-adjusted returns

What We're Looking For

  • Proven success in commercial banking or business development within fuel services, convenience retail, or adjacent sectors
  • Strong industry knowledge and deep professional networks within the fuel and convenience industry
  • Demonstrated expertise in structuring and originating commercial loans and facility solutions
  • Excellent client relationship management and consultative sales skills
  • Track record of exceeding growth targets and building business in competitive markets
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics, or related field (MBA a plus)
  • Ability to travel regionally to meet clients and develop relationships in person
