Machine Learning Engineer (Active Secret Clearance)

Join Striveworks as a Machine Learning Engineer in Tacoma, Pierce County, where you'll design, develop, and deploy AI systems that tackle critical national security and business challenges. This is a full-time, on-site position requiring an Active Secret Clearance.

You'll work with teams of experienced data scientists and engineers to move AI from theory into real-world deployment and continuous optimization.

What You'll Do

• Design and implement machine learning models for classification, prediction, anomaly detection, and other security-critical applications
• Build production pipelines that ingest, process, and validate data at scale
• Develop robust software engineering practices for model training, validation, and deployment in controlled environments
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements and operational challenges into technical solutions
• Monitor model performance in production and implement improvements based on feedback and evolving threat landscapes
• Document code, methodologies, and system architecture for security review and knowledge transfer
• Contribute to the full lifecycle of AI systems: concept through deployment, sustainment, and optimization

What We're Looking For

• Active Secret Clearance or eligibility to obtain one
• Professional experience developing machine learning systems in production environments
• Strong programming skills in Python, Java, C++, or similar languages
• Solid understanding of ML fundamentals: model selection, evaluation, feature engineering, and performance metrics
• Experience with data engineering, ETL pipelines, or working with large datasets
• Familiarity with version control, testing frameworks, and software development best practices
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Security mindset: commitment to protecting sensitive data and following compliance requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent professional experience)
