Design Engineer

About the Role

As a Design Engineer at Alamo Group Inc., you'll take ownership of design projects spanning product modifications, redesigns, and entirely new equipment concepts. You'll work with mechanical systems that incorporate steel fabrication, weldments, engine integration (both diesel and gasoline), driveline components, hydraulic systems, and electronic controls. Your designs will bring to life everything from compact tree care equipment to large-scale industrial machinery, including chippers, mills, and specialized sawmill equipment.

What You'll Do

• Develop detailed design solutions for mechanical equipment using CAD and engineering best practices
• Collaborate with product management and manufacturing teams to translate concept into production-ready designs
• Integrate engine, drivetrain, hydraulic, and control systems into cohesive equipment packages
• Evaluate feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability of design concepts
• Support prototype testing and validation, iterating designs based on performance feedback
• Document designs, specifications, and modifications for production and quality assurance teams

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent professional experience
• Proficiency with CAD software and mechanical design principles
• Understanding of fabrication processes, welding, and metal materials
• Knowledge of engine systems, powertrains, hydraulics, or similar industrial equipment
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to engineering detail
• Ability to work collaboratively across engineering, manufacturing, and product teams
• Clear communication skills and ability to document technical work
