About the Role
The Farzan Lab is seeking a Research Assistant I with genuine enthusiasm for gene therapy and translational research in HIV treatment and prevention. This role provides comprehensive training in foundational laboratory techniques while building your skills toward independent project work. You'll be mentored by experienced researchers in a collaborative environment committed to rigorous scientific discovery.
What You'll Do
- Master core laboratory skills under direct guidance and structured mentorship
- Participate in designing and conducting experiments with AAV vector systems for HIV inhibitor expression
- Conduct hands-on work with non-human primate models to evaluate prevention and therapeutic approaches
- Prepare reagents, maintain laboratory equipment, and manage experimental records and data documentation
- Support protocol development and contribute to troubleshooting and optimization of research approaches
- Progressively take on independent responsibilities as technical competency develops
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a closely related life science discipline
- Demonstrated precision, thoroughness, and commitment to data integrity and accurate record-keeping
- Ability to follow laboratory protocols carefully while thinking critically about experimental design
- Collaborative approach to working in a research team environment
- Genuine interest in gene therapy, HIV research, or translational biomedical science
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to learn technical concepts quickly
