About the Role
As a Public Affairs Planning Specialist with security clearance, you'll serve as a key communications strategist for one of the Department of Defense's most important regional commands. Based in Fort Shafter, Honolulu, you'll contribute to planning initiatives that shape how INDOPACOM communicates its missions, operations, and strategic priorities to diverse stakeholder groups. This role bridges military operations and public communication, ensuring alignment between command objectives and messaging strategy.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute public affairs strategies aligned with INDOPACOM's operational priorities and long-term planning objectives
- Support strategic communication planning for military exercises, operational announcements, and policy initiatives
- Analyze communication effectiveness and audience insights to inform messaging decisions and stakeholder engagement
- Collaborate with command leadership and public affairs teams on messaging consistency and crisis communication preparedness
- Maintain current awareness of global security environments and their implications for regional command communications
- Prepare briefings, talking points, and communication materials for leadership approval and distribution
What We're Looking For
- Active Secret clearance or higher (Top Secret preferred); ability to maintain clearance eligibility
- Demonstrated experience in public affairs, communications planning, or strategic communications roles
- Knowledge of Department of Defense culture, command structures, and communication protocols
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain complex military concepts to diverse audiences
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in dynamic, fast-paced environments
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public affairs, journalism, political science, or related field
