Visionist
Visionist is seeking a Junior Infrastructure Engineer to support critical maritime domain awareness systems at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. In this full-time role, you'll contribute to the development and maintenance of infrastructure supporting global ship tracking and maritime intelligence operations on behalf of the U.S. government.
About the Role
You'll join a team advancing next-generation maritime monitoring capabilities through robust, scalable infrastructure. This position offers hands-on experience with government-grade systems while working directly with experienced infrastructure engineers who will mentor you in real-world DevOps, cloud platforms, and mission-critical system design.
What You'll Do
- Support the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of infrastructure powering maritime domain awareness platforms
- Collaborate with senior engineers to design and troubleshoot systems handling large-scale global ship tracking data
- Assist with infrastructure provisioning, configuration management, and system reliability across development and production environments
- Document infrastructure architecture, runbooks, and standard operating procedures to ensure continuity and knowledge transfer
- Participate in incident response and system optimization efforts to maintain uptime and performance
- Work within a security-first environment managing access controls, compliance, and infrastructure best practices
What We're Looking For
- Active Top Secret/SCI clearance required — this is non-negotiable for the role
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Foundational knowledge of Linux/Unix systems and networking principles
- Familiarity with infrastructure tools such as containerization, version control, or configuration management
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to learn quickly in complex technical environments
- Ability to work collaboratively and communicate technical concepts clearly to team members
- U.S. citizenship required for government clearance eligibility
