About the Role

The High Meadows Environmental Institute seeks a postdoctoral scholar to develop research and storytelling projects focused on ocean biodiversity, environmental change, and conservation. This interdisciplinary position bridges ocean science, environmental humanities, and science communication—creating pathways for research findings to reach and resonate with broader audiences. You'll work within Princeton's collaborative academic environment, connecting with faculty across marine science, environmental studies, and media disciplines.

What You'll Do

  • Conduct original research on ocean biodiversity, marine ecosystems, or related environmental topics
  • Develop compelling narratives and communication strategies that translate ocean science for diverse audiences
  • Collaborate with faculty mentors and interdisciplinary research teams across Princeton
  • Create content, publications, or multimedia projects that engage public understanding of ocean conservation
  • Contribute to environmental humanities scholarship examining human relationships with ocean systems
  • Present findings at academic conferences and through public-facing outlets

What We're Looking For

  • Ph.D. in marine science, oceanography, environmental science, environmental studies, science communication, or related field
  • Strong research background in ocean biodiversity, marine conservation, or environmental science
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate science to non-specialist audiences
  • Experience with environmental storytelling, science media, or public engagement
  • Excellent writing and communication skills across academic and general audiences
  • Collaborative mindset and ability to work across disciplinary boundaries
