Join the University of the District of Columbia as an Emergency Manager Coordinator in Washington, D.C. In this full-time role, you'll lead our institutional emergency preparedness and response efforts, ensuring the safety and continuity of operations across our campus community.
About the Role
The Emergency Manager Coordinator plays a critical role in protecting the University of the District of Columbia and its constituents. You'll develop comprehensive emergency management strategies, coordinate response protocols, and maintain our institution's readiness to respond effectively to any crisis—from natural disasters to security incidents. This position reports directly to senior leadership and requires a strategic, detail-oriented professional who can balance preparedness planning with active incident management.
What You'll Do
- Develop, implement, and maintain campus-wide emergency management plans aligned with federal and local requirements
- Coordinate emergency preparedness training, drills, and exercises across departments and divisions
- Establish and oversee the Emergency Operations Center and incident command structure
- Serve as liaison with local, state, and federal emergency management agencies
- Maintain continuity of operations and business recovery documentation
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and recommend mitigation strategies
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and institutional policies
- Provide emergency management leadership during incidents and crisis situations
- Document lessons learned and continuously improve emergency response capabilities
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public administration, business continuity, or related field
- 3+ years of professional emergency management experience in a higher education, government, or large institutional setting
- Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) or equivalent certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS)
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and under high-pressure conditions
- Proficiency with emergency management software and standard office technology
- Willingness to respond after-hours during declared emergencies
