Join Ghafari Associates as a Project Architect – Mission Critical / Data Centers, leading the design and delivery of high-stakes infrastructure projects in Chicago, Cook County. This is a full-time role where you'll direct architectural vision, manage technical documentation, and oversee construction coordination on complex, mission-critical facilities.
About the Role
As Project Architect at Ghafari Associates, you'll hold primary responsibility for the architectural direction and design strategy of substantial, complex projects. You'll serve as the technical leader guiding the creation of comprehensive construction documents, specifications, and design standards. Your role bridges design concept and built reality, ensuring that all architectural decisions support the operational reliability and performance demands of mission-critical infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Direct architectural design development and establish design standards for projects of significant scale and technical complexity
- Lead the production of detailed technical drawings, specifications, and construction documentation
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, structural) and other project stakeholders to integrate complex systems
- Manage in-house construction administration, including site oversight, quality control, and contractor coordination
- Ensure architectural solutions meet the uptime, redundancy, and operational requirements unique to mission-critical and data center environments
- Collaborate with clients and consultants to refine designs and resolve technical challenges during construction
What We're Looking For
- Professional architecture license (AIA member or equivalent credentials preferred)
- Substantial experience in architectural design and project delivery, particularly with mission-critical or data center facilities
- Demonstrated proficiency in architectural software, CAD platforms, and BIM tools
- Strong leadership skills and ability to mentor project teams
- Deep understanding of building codes, regulatory compliance, and construction administration practices
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities across multidisciplinary teams
