Breaking Ground
Breaking Ground seeks a Senior Housing Specialist to lead programs at South Strand Safe Haven in lower Manhattan. In this full-time role, you'll directly support individuals experiencing homelessness who are building toward permanent housing, offering leadership across case management, clinical coordination, and daily operations in a 106-bed facility.
About the Role
South Strand Safe Haven provides short-term, private, safe, and affordable housing for people who have faced barriers in traditional housing programs or are preparing for permanent placements. As Senior Housing Specialist, you'll anchor our on-site team, ensuring every resident receives the support and structure they need to succeed. You'll work at the intersection of housing operations, clinical services, and case management to advance residents toward self-sufficiency and stable living situations.
What You'll Do
- Lead daily facility operations and maintain safety standards while respecting resident dignity and autonomy
- Work with case managers and clinical staff to design and support individualized housing transition plans
- Connect residents with external resources, benefits programs, and community partnerships that advance their goals
- Mentor staff and foster a team environment grounded in housing-first and trauma-informed principles
- Document progress, identify emerging needs, and adapt programming to serve residents effectively
What We're Looking For
- Experience in housing services, case management, or homelessness prevention
- Leadership ability and track record working collaboratively across clinical, social service, and operations teams
- Deep commitment to housing-first approaches and person-centered, trauma-informed practice
- Strong communication, cultural humility, and problem-solving abilities
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
