Missoula County Public Schools is seeking a full-time Assistant Band Director at Big Sky High School in Missoula, Montana for the 2026-27 academic year. About the Role
As Assistant Band Director at Big Sky High School, you'll work alongside the head band director to lead comprehensive instrumental music instruction and ensemble development. This coaching and advisory position is integral to our school's music education program, supporting student musicians at all levels and contributing to the school's band performances, competitions, and concerts throughout the year.
What You'll Do
- Co-direct band rehearsals and provide instrumental instruction to student musicians
- Assist with the selection, arrangement, and preparation of band literature and performance repertoire
- Lead sectional rehearsals and coaching for woodwind, brass, percussion, and other band sections
- Support concert performances, competitions, and special events throughout the school year
- Mentor and advise students, fostering musical development and positive ensemble culture
- Collaborate with the band director on curriculum planning and assessment of student progress
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in music education or equivalent professional music experience
- Current or eligible for Montana teaching certification
- Demonstrated expertise in instrumental music instruction and conducting
- Knowledge of band literature, instrumentation, and ensemble pedagogical practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with faculty and students
- Passion for music education and developing young musicians
