Service Employees International Union is hiring a Lead Organizer in Oakland, Alameda County—a full-time supervisory position driving organizing campaigns to empower long-term care workers and build member power across California.
About the Role
As Lead Organizer, you'll oversee union organizing campaigns in our region, directing strategic initiatives, coordinating field teams, and advancing collective bargaining efforts for home care, skilled nursing facility, and assisted living center workers across Alameda County and beyond.
What You'll Do
- Supervise and mentor organizing staff, providing strategic guidance and developing campaign capabilities
- Lead large-scale organizing drives and membership campaigns in long-term care facilities and home-based care settings
- Develop and execute organizing plans that build worker power, advance member recruitment, and support contract negotiations
- Build relationships with workers, community partners, and elected officials throughout the region
- Analyze workplace conditions, industry trends, and member concerns to inform campaign priorities
- Coordinate communications and media outreach supporting organizing efforts and worker visibility
- Represent SEIU Local 2015 at community meetings, labor events, and strategic planning sessions
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience organizing workers or mobilizing communities
- Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to supervise and develop teams
- Excellent communication and public speaking abilities
- Deep commitment to labor rights, worker dignity, and social justice
- Experience in the long-term care industry or similar sector (preferred)
- Bilingual skills a plus
- Flexibility to work varied hours including evenings and weekends
