Charles River Laboratories, Inc. seeks a Clinical Veterinarian I to join our Houston, Harris County facility. This full-time position offers the opportunity to advance animal welfare and research excellence at one of the world's leading contract research organizations.
About the Role
As Clinical Veterinarian I, you will provide clinical veterinary oversight and direct care for research animals used in preclinical and clinical studies. You will work collaboratively with our research and animal care teams to ensure the health, welfare, and compliance of all animals under your care. Your expertise will be instrumental in maintaining our high standards of animal welfare and scientific integrity.
What You'll Do
- Conduct routine and specialized clinical examinations and assessments of laboratory and research animals
- Monitor animal health status, clinical signs, and physiological parameters
- Develop and implement animal care protocols and treatment plans
- Maintain detailed clinical records and ensure accurate documentation of findings
- Ensure compliance with USDA regulations, IACUC guidelines, and institutional animal care standards
- Collaborate with study directors and research teams to support study objectives
- Perform necropsies and contribute to pathological assessments
- Provide clinical consultation on animal welfare matters and protocol modifications
What We're Looking For
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school
- Current veterinary license in Texas or eligibility for licensure
- Knowledge of laboratory animal medicine and care principles
- Understanding of USDA regulations and IACUC standards
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to animal welfare and research integrity
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
