Assistant Teacher Early Childhood

Join Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit as an Assistant Teacher in our Early Childhood program, supporting young learners in West Bloomfield, Michigan. This full-time role offers the opportunity to collaborate with experienced educators in creating enriching, developmentally-appropriate learning experiences for children ages 2–5.

About the Role

As an Assistant Teacher in Early Childhood, you will work alongside Lead Teachers to design and implement intentional learning activities that foster cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and creative growth. Your partnership with our teaching team ensures every child experiences a warm, inclusive environment where curiosity and confidence thrive.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate on planning and delivering activities that support early literacy, numeracy, fine and gross motor development, and social skills
• Support daily classroom routines including transitions, mealtimes, outdoor exploration, and rest periods
• Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming learning environment that reflects children's interests and developmental levels
• Build positive family partnerships through regular communication, updates, and participation in community events
• Observe and document children's progress, offering insights that inform individualized support
• Guide children's emotional expression and social interactions with patience and age-appropriate strategies
• Assist with classroom preparation, setup, and material organization

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or GED; early childhood education coursework or credentials preferred
• Genuine passion for supporting young children's development and learning
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with children, families, and colleagues
• Patient, flexible, and calm approach to the dynamic early childhood classroom
• Commitment to creating safe, inclusive, and developmentally sound learning spaces
• Willingness to undergo background check and health clearance
