Support criminal investigations through forensic science as a Criminalist I with the County of Maui. This full-time position in Wailuku, Maui offers the opportunity to analyze evidence and advance law enforcement investigations through laboratory expertise and analytical skills.
About the Role
The Criminalist I performs laboratory analyses and evidence examination to support the Maui County forensic investigation program. Working in a crime laboratory environment, you'll conduct standard physical, chemical, instrumental, and microscopic examinations of evidence collected at crime scenes and submitted by law enforcement agencies to support detection, investigation, and prosecution.
What You'll Do
- Perform physical, chemical, and instrumental analyses on forensic evidence using established laboratory protocols
- Conduct microscopic examinations to document and identify evidence characteristics
- Prepare detailed laboratory reports with findings and analysis documentation
- Maintain proper evidence handling procedures and chain of custody protocols
- Assist with more complex investigations and assigned research project phases under senior criminalists
- Support law enforcement and investigators with accurate forensic analysis for case development
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure quality standards in all testing procedures
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of forensic evidence analysis principles and laboratory procedures
- Ability to perform precise, methodical work with strong attention to detail
- Skill in documenting findings clearly and maintaining comprehensive records
- Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage multiple evidence samples
- Collaborative approach to supporting more experienced criminalists on complex cases
